Selection criteria
- Be under 30 years of age on the day of the competition.
- Be of Cameroonian origin or share strong ties with Cameroon.
- Have a letter of recommendation from a computer project already carried out in a professional, academic or recreational context.
- Commit to being available on both days if selected for the final.
- One champion per region.
- 15 Champions from a national pre-selection process will compete in the final.

September 15, 2025 is the mandatory date.

Challenges Médicaux - Themes and challenges
Optimize drug supply and management for pharmacies through innovative technological solutions.
Automate the detection of diseases or anomalies on X-ray results.
Strengthen the detection, awareness and management of Monkeypox (Mpox) cases in Africa through innovative digital solutions.
Transforming sickle cell disease management through innovations in communication, awareness-raising and follow-up.
Ensuring that patients take their medication correctly thanks to innovative digital solutions.
Problem: High maternal/infant mortality due to limited access to prenatal/postnatal care in rural Cameroon.
POC Challenge: Design a lightweight telemedicine platform (SMS/USSD/vocal) with AI triage for symptom analysis, appointment reminders or emergency alerts.
Examples of solutions:
- Chatbot for symptom assessment via local dialects.
- Voice-to-text tool to document patient histories for remote clinicians.
Problem: 70 % of Cameroonians have no health coverage, particularly workers in the informal sector (farmers, vendors).
POC Challenge: Create a mobile micro-insurance model using AI to calculate flexible premiums based on income variability.
Examples of solutions:
- Gamified savings application with blockchain-based verification.
- AI-based risk prediction for affordable group plans (e.g. marketplace provider co-ops).
Problem: Late diagnosis of malaria, typhoid or diabetes due to limited access to laboratories.
POC Challenge: Create a symptom verification AI trained on local disease patterns (e.g., integrating temperature, region, symptoms) to recommend emergency care or home treatment.
Examples of solutions:
- Image-based diagnostic tool for rapid malaria test strips.
- SMS-based symptom analyzer with referral maps to nearby clinics.
Problem: Out-of-stock medicines and counterfeit drugs in remote pharmacies.
POC Challenge: Develop a blockchain registry to track drug shipments from cities to villages, with AI alerts in case of low stock.
Examples of solutions:
- QR code authenticity verification system.
- Predictive analysis of vaccine demand using historical data.
Problem: Misinformation on sexual health, mental health and nutrition among adolescents.
POC Challenge: Create a culturally sensitive chatbot (via WhatsApp/Telegram) to answer healthcare questions in French/local languages, using NLP for keyword detection.
Examples of solutions:
- Meme/video generator for small-scale education.
- Anonymous mental health screening with referral links.

The Digital Health Hackathon is a development competition organized by African eHealth Network & KimboCare SA with the aim of bringing digital health solutions to African patients. African eHealth Network & KimboCare SA start from the premise that technology has already proven its worth in improving patients' health conditions.
The main aim of the Digital Health Hackathon is to bring together students, healthcare professionals, developers, designers and passionate innovators to create digital solutions to current challenges in the African healthcare sector.
- Be under 30 years of age on the day of the competition.
- Be of African origin or share strong ties with Africa.
- A letter of recommendation from a
IT project already completed
professional, academic or playful. - Commit to being available on both days in
in the event of selection for the final. - One champion per region.
- 18 Champions from a pre-industrialization process
continental selection will compete for
the final.
To enter the competition, you need to make sure you meet all the selection criteria, then download the African Health Awards application and register by choosing the appropriate category and filling in the form. All this before the deadline.
After the pre-selection phase, only 18 candidates will be selected, geographically distributed with respect for parity (male/female), for the final phase where they will be randomly divided into 6 teams.
Prizes worth 1,000,000 FCFA for the 2024 edition, to be shared by the various winners.
